What’s this image about, Julie?
It is a Moments in May 2015 Challenge. Based on the day’s prompt — for those who participate — the challenge will create a permanent record of one’s May 2015.
Why’d you create this challenge?
My new love is Instagram. If you do a search of #challenge on Instagram, you’ll get a million posts. Most of them are fitness challenges, but earlier in the year, I came across a daily snapshot #challenge by @kirsty108innes and @duncansms out of Australia. I found the challenge inspirational. It made me think about certain things each day. I liked the idea of a guided exercise as well as directed prompts. For both I had to be specific, yet found I could put my own creativity, my own signature if you will, on each day’s challenge.
I created the Moments in May 2015 Challenge so that by the end of it, people who do the challenge will have created a permanent record of their May 2015.
Why May? It’s such a busy month.
May is a busy month. In the USA, it’s filled with Mother’s Day, birthdays, weddings, proms, graduations. But for me, a person who lives in Minnesota, May signifies a restoration of visual loveliness; May stimulates my senses with each new tulip in blossom, each flowering lilac. May reopens the beloved fairytale of spring.
So, you want people who accept this challenge to create a story fairytale of May 2015?
Yes, precisely. With each new day, we are given a fairytale to tell, a story possibility. We get to choose the who, what, where, when, how, for our day’s story. And when we lay our heads down to sleep, we’ve created and finished the day’s story.
I created the Moments in May 2015 Challenge as an invitation for those who accept it, to intentionally shape the month’s story by using the challenge’s prompts along with their favorite things and their memories. I’m excited to see the results of how people shape their month.
What are people to do with the Moments in May 2015 Challenge once they are finished with compiling it?
I do hope is that people will post their Moments in May 2015 Challenge, each day, as well as at month’s end they create a collage of the entire month of challenges on their Web sites, on their Instagrams and other social media sites and show the world their creativity as well as their unique May 2015 Story.
So create a May 2015 collage of their lives?
Yes. I believe if people do the Moments in May 2015 Challenge, they will have visible, tangible evidence of what incredibly beautiful and full lives they live out day after extraordinary day.
