Lately, I’ve been into making fruit desserts. Not sure why. I think because I love peaches. And I love this Peach Torte with vanilla bean ice cream. I received this Peach Torte recipe from my sweet friend, Ann Seymour. Prepared and baked correctly the Peach Torte is the most fabulous-tasting and easy recipe I make. You’ll be slurping up every last syrupy spoonful of deliciousness. I do use a torte pan – it’s actually a Pampered Chef edged baking stone approximately 11 inches in diameter. But a 9×9 cake pan will work great too. I tried to double this recipe for a…

2016 marks the tenth year we have owned our cabin on Dead Lake in Ottertail County, Minnesota. When we first bought the place, our three sons, Sam, Joe, and Jake, joked that the reason the lake was called Dead was “because there were no girls on it.” I, too, was surprised the first time we circled the lake. With the exception of a handful of resorts, very little noise or activity was to be seen or heard. Notta one ice cream shop or restaurant to motor up to on this 7,500-acre lake was to be found. Here was the menu, with links to the recipes. Appetizer, Layered Ranch Dip – recipe is from Holly Lofthouse’s website Life in the…

Of the many things I’m grateful for this Thanksgiving season, close to the top of my list is Gert Saffrin’s Fantastic Pumpkin Pie recipe. Why? Because her recipe is the reason I like pumpkin pie. As a kid, I never had a taste for it, but once in the Saffrin family, Gert’s pie won me over. Gert always served it chilled with Readi-Whip cream squirted on top. Festal Brand is the canned pumpkin you’ll need to buy. Nothing else will do. (For an interesting story about the pumpkin pie recipe of the back of a Festal Brand golden pie pumpkin can,…
